Who's Where IMUK Aug ??? 2010 so far : Looks like its at Bolton again !! SUN 1st August 2010

The Date - SUNDAY 8th AUGUST 2010 ! So who will win the battle for Ironman UK supremacy ?? Bolton IMUK or Nottingham Iron Distance. Yes, I have checked the World Ironman Series website and it clearly states that Bolton 2010 is on the 8th August, the same day as Ian Hamiltons Nottingham event! They have kippered me yet again as this is the date I was supposed to head off for France for my Summer holidays! Yet again they have moved it! I will now be heading off to France from the finish line in Bolton! They keep on testing my resolve !

FORGET MY LAST!! Just been on the World Ironman Series website again and they have changed the IMUK 2010 date back to Sun 1st August 2010! I think they do it on purpose just to wind me up!!

OUTLAW Iron Distance Event 8th August 2010 at Nottingham

As of today 5/11/2009 there are 486 entrants and it's only been open for 5 day's so if you are thinking of doing this then I would suggest you think/ act fast as there are only 1000 places and at this rate it will be sold out by the end of the month.

There is plenty of accomodation in the nearby villages and Nottingham for everyone's needs, I have managed to get 3* Guest House ensuite b&b with free parking just over a mile away from the event in West Bridgford for £25/ night, and on speaking to a number of establishments in the area there seems to be a real buzz about the event.

All the rooms at the National Water Sports venue are full.

Details can be found at http://www.onestepbeyond.org.uk/the-outlaw-triathlon.php

An ambitious enterprise. Just 1 week after IMUK ( if IMUK stick to the same date - and they best had cos my summer holiday in France starts on the 8th August next year!! ). Outlaw ...... a couragous name and price ... half the price of IMUK I suspect. Official Ironman event ?? no it is not. Ironman Tattoo eligible event ??? debatable ??? Same pain ? Yep I am sure. Ian Hamilton of course has a track record of clashing with other big events!!!!. Remember his Wakefield Tri 2009. Originally the day after Ripon until he realised he was getting no entries then he moved it back a week and pulled the plug in May when he only had 38 entrants. Perhaps he is trying to do to IMUK what Ripon did to him ??? 'Pacesetter' and his sister company '1 step beyond' run good events under Ian ( ie. Vitruvian and National Relays )and perhaps he is making a move for the official Ironman franchise when TRIUk's contract runs out ?? Who knows ?? Anyway I will be in Bolton. In the cow s**t, on the cycle and run with no KM markers and I will run the marathon when all the pepsi has run out!! But then perhaps that only proves what everybody has been saying for years?! Reesy really is Crazy!!

Good luck Mark. The sensible option has never been an option for me though! You see they have the name IRONMAN. Nobody else can use it. I doubt they can even call you an Ironman as you cross the line without a law suit?. Iron Distance finisher just does not have the same ring. It's a con I know!

IM UK was the worst organised race I have ever raced. I could easily list 10 things seriously and sadly wrong but running out of all drinks at a bike aid station [with a long way to the next one], and having no Pepsi at the last five aid stations on the run, counts as unforgiveable. When I compare my IM UK experience with other IM races abroad - admittedly a few years ago - I was embarrassed to admit to being British when speaking with overseas competitors at IM UK. No doubt others will still fall for the superficial attraction of the IM kudos but for me it's no big deal having someone shout out "you are an ironman" in the finish chute when it's not your first - and it certanly isn't worth paying an extra £100 for and putting up with a dreadfully organised race. I'm with Mark B in not falling for the marketing hype and if I race IM distance next year it won't be IM UK and very likely will be this new race. Those of us who make that choice will then have experience of the course when it becomes the official IM.

I look forward to seeing you there Mark B.

I cannot disagree with any of Jon's comments. They are all warranted. The only consolation may be that surely it can only get better ?? The only thing they did do as well as Lanzarote, Nice, Austria and Sherborne was 'provide pain!'

I raced Vitruvian on 5 September. I hadn't raced there before. It is organised by the same people who are organising the new Nottingham IM distance race and they were handing out postcards advertising their new race at the end. Although perhaps not perfect I found Vitruvian a very well organised and enjoyable race. Certainly there were plenty of drinks on bike and run [every mile on the run] and km markers on bike and run. And a nice polo shirt in goody bag on registering as well as finishers tea-shirt and medal at end.

This encourages me to try their new race next August. From what I heard from others on Saturday I won't be the only one deserting IMUK for this new race. It would be good if others from NYP Tri could join Mark B and me there. (Jon Z)

Having been spoilt at Ironman Germany I can't decide what to do in 2010. The Nottingham event sounds like it will be well organised and it is cheaper than IMUK so am probably in!

COPENHAGEN IRON DISTANCE RACE

FROM MARK REES. THIS IS AN OUTSTANDING LOCATION FOR A TRIATHLON!!!

As you may be aware, the Challenge-Family has recently been expanded with an iron-distance triathlon in Copenhagen, Challenge Copenhagen, set to take place for the first time the 15th of August 2010.
To give the event an international atmosphere we are trying to attract as many foreign triathletes as possible.
We already have a strong international pro-lineup, with more names to be announced soon, including several British top-athletes.
If you are interested, we have produced a flyer and posters that we can send to you for display at your clubhouse and on events where you are participating, which outlines the basic information regarding the event.
If you want to help us, by displaying our flyers, please don’t hesitate to contact me. See contact details below.
Your members can now sign-up for the race in 2010. We offer a 10% discount to all clubs that sign up 10 or more people.
If you would like to take advantage of this discount, please contact me and I will supply you with voucher to use when signing up. You can sign via our website, www.challengecopenhagen.com
If you have any questions regarding Challenge Copenhagen, you are more than welcome to contact us.
We look forward to hopefully welcoming many triathletes from your club in Copenhagen 2010.

Kind regards

LANZAROTE IRONMAN 2010

I understand that Lanza may already be full but not before Mark and Lesley Whitehouse managed to enter. Yes, it is a return to the Lava fields for Mark 10 years after his first! Good luck both. Posted by Mark Rees 070909

ROTH IRON DISTANCE RACE 2010

Paul Kayley makes a long awaited come back at this one which doubles up as the World Firefighter Iron Distance Championships. there is a chance Andy Blades may take the plunge too ?? We will see! Posted by Mark Rees 070909

WHERE IS RAFFI GOING ??

It is back to Ironman France in Nice for Raffi in 2010. He was hoping to enter Lanzarote 2010 but entries appear now to be closed ? Who knows he may still get a place from the reserve list ? Posted by Mark Rees 070909

AND BEFORE WE GET TO ALL THAT !

Wherever you are going in the World NYP Tri athletes and kit are sure to be there! We still have Carrine Green and Jill Rawson travelling to Australia for the World Age Group Standard Distance Triathlon Championships, Debs Hassell travelling to Florida, after qualifying for the World 70.3 championships, and Bill Murphy plus Jon Cooper in Western Australia for an official Ironman before 2009 ends and we get underway with the above. There is no rest in this club ! Posted by Mark Rees 070909
