OPEN WATER SWIMMING - RIPON RACECOURSE

Page history last edited by C M C Rees 4 days ago

Message to all dated 260709

Our facility at the lake is in serious jeopordy! On Sat 18th July at least 2 swimmers swam in the lake on a horse racing day. Tim Broomfield spends a lot of time updating the NO SWIM Saturdays and even if you dont bother to check the web site the horse racing dates are clearly painted in enormous letters on the wall outside the course. The club has never been rigid about membership. We have welcomed those who have just joined our club to swim at the lake on a Saturday morning but those members who do this must respect the members who for years have built up a healthy relationship with the racecourse owners and management and who could lose this facility if others continue to disregard our terms of use.

OPEN WATER SWIMMING - RIPON RACECOURSEOPEN WATER SWIMMING - RIPON RACECOURSEOPEN WATER SWIMMING - RIPON RACECOURSENYP Tri have permission to use the lake in Ripon Racecourse on Tuesday and Thursday evenings 4pm to 8pm and Saturday mornings until 10.00 am from April to October inclusive Except on Race Days ( Shown Below ).

(PLEASE make sure you are out of the water by 10am on Saturdays as after that time there is a risk of Jet Skiers.)

BTF Open Water Swimming Coaching and safetey Guidelines Click Here Microsoft_Word_-_Open_Water_Guildlines_for_Coaching_Children_&_Adults.pdf

All swimmers should avoid swimming alone and conduct a dynamic risk assessment before entering the water. If you are forced to swim alone please make sure you have a spotter with a mobile phone in case of emergencies. If you have nobody with you then a fisherman will do. Also we discourage lone swimmers from doing more than the first island and back. Just do more loops and be safe! A full generic risk assessment is posted on the MEMBERS PAGE of the web site.

If you want to swim please put your name and the time that you will arrive below. PLEASE, PLEASE, MAKE SURE YOU PUT YOUR INTENDED ARRIVAL TIME AFTER YOUR NAME TO ASSIST OTHERS.

Further information is on our web site on members info page. The 2 main rules are do not swim alone and do not park in the racecourse if you think you may get locked in. If there are caravans etc then you are safe. If we have to knock up the caretaker again to release cars we will probably lose this facility. It is only a 2 min walk from the car park and we do profess to being fitter than the average person. Tim

SWIMMING IN THE LAKE MUST AT ALL TIMES BE IN A CLOCKWISE DIRECTION TO AVOID INCIDENTS OF COLLISION AND IN ORDER THAT SPOTTERS CAN MONITOR THE PROGRESS OF SWIMMERS

Could I join you for an open water swim on Thursday 11th june at 5pm? I am up here with my mum as I have recently had a family bereavement but need to keep on training as I have Windsor race next week!. which I want to do in my dad's memory. Is it possible to do some training with you whilst up here as I will be coming and going for some time.

Thanks
